I'm not sure what topology-geometry-hybrid branch of math I'm reinventing, but here is everything that can happen by gluing together matching faces, starting from a cube.

Fixed the diagram. It shows an interesting symmetry: you can connect opposite faces first and then adjacent faces, or adjacent faces first and then opposite faces, and you get the same shape (pointy torus)
